Learn How to Compete!
Miss Mississippi Local Delegate Requirements
To become Miss Mississippi, a delegate must first win a local preliminary competition to be eligible to compete for the title of Miss Mississippi, a process requiring personal commitment, hard work, and talent. The role of a local titleholder is a great privilege that comes with great responsibility. We hope this information will serve as a guide to helping you understand the local competition process and answer questions you might have regarding the 2022-2023 local competitions.
For local competition deadlines, including their dates and locations, please contact the specific local director for the competition of interest: Miss Program>How to Compete>Local Competitions

Phases of Competition

Private Interview (30%)
Wardrobe: Delegates Choice - Fashionable Interview Attire (age appropriate)
Timing: 30 second opening, 9 minute Q&A, optional 30 second wrap up or closing statement. Judges will use delegate's Fact Sheet and Community Service Initiative Statement.

Performance Talent/HERStory (20%)
Wardrobe: Delegate's Choice – Performance Arts Talents or HERStoryTM Presentation
Timing: up to 90 seconds
Performance Talent Requirements: Talent must be approved by National MAO or previously approved as listed on the most recent “Approved Performance Talent List” OR be in compliance with the guidelines for the HERStoryTM stage presentation.

Evening Gown (20%)
Wardrobe: Delegate’s Choice of Evening Wear
Purpose: Delegate will publicly present her sense of Style wearing an evening gown in a fashion suitable for an appearance as Teen/Miss Local/Miss State. Part of a titleholder’s role is to attend galas, fundraisers, awards shows, and other formal events. This often involves walking a red carpet, posting for the press photographers, modeling in fashion shows, promoting various national fashion designers who partner with Miss America or Miss America’s Teen programs.

Final Conversation (10%)
Wardrobe: Delegate’s Choice of Evening Wear
Purpose: The Final Conversation will include five pillars of the brand (style, service, scholarship, success, sisterhood) and may include a “warm up” question. The delegate will have between 20 to 60 seconds to answer a ‘warm up’ question. Thereafter, the delegate will answer an additional question.
